Jessica Sofarnos is an actor, writer and director from Melbourne. 

She received a Bachelor of Professional Communication majoring in Advertising & Cinema Studies from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and studied in the Professional Acting Program at the William Esper Studio in New York City.

Her short films have premiered at major festivals such as Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) and SXSW Sydney, with further work recognised and screened by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). 

Bringing a wealth of high-scale production experience to her own creative projects, Jessica has an extensive background in premium film and television, working across titles such as TOGETHER (NEON), ALL HER FAULT (Peacock), MR. IRRELEVANT (Skydance/Paramount), and the upcoming A24 thriller HOTEL, HOTEL, HOTEL, HOTEL.

Driven by character and an acute sense of empathy, her work centres around themes that pertain to relationships and loss, with a focus on young, modern life in a domestic Australian setting. Her filmography has become a distinctive exploration of personal experiences framed in a universal context, that challenge her audiences to acknowledge the emotional complexity and nuance of everyday life.


She is currently in development with her Screen Australia supported series GOOD GRIEF, with EPs Minkie Spiro (3-BODY-PROBLEM, SKINS, DOWNTON ABBEY) and Amanda Higgs (THE SECRET LIFE OF US, THE SLAP), her debut feature film & the book adaptation of Jayne Tuttle's memoir PARIS OR DIE.
